The release of a second Greatest Hits album in less than five years might seem a bit excessive for some artists, but riding high on recent various reality show wins, autobiography releases and infamous wedding videos, McFly seem to get away with it. In their defense, they have released plenty of new material in this interim period; two-thirds of the tracks on newest compilation release ‘Memory Lane’ do not feature on the previous Hits album, plus there are three entirely new songs from the boys.

There is a great selection of tracks included, a range of favourites along with some slightly lesser known songs, but all spanning the eight year period since their debut was released to present day. Early singles Five Colours In Her Hair and Obviously hark back to the days when McFly burst onto the scene with their infectious bubblegum pop sound and innocent lyrics. They may not be groundbreaking either lyrically or musically but their tunes are undeniably toe-tapping and great to sing along to. All About You remains one of their stand-out songs, so it’s no surprise to see it included on Memory Lane’s tracklist. With its string accompaniment, heart-warming lyrics and simple guitar melodies, it’s no lie that every girl also wanted to be spun romantically around their kitchen after hearing this track.

Bigger McFly fans will know that from the start, the quartet wanted to include elements of their punk-rock influences such as Blink 182 and Green Day. It may have taken parting ways with their record label to do so, but Lies and One For The Radio gave them the opportunity to demonstrate heavier guitar riffs and lyrics answering back to the musical establishment. A definite departure from their more recognisable sound, these tracks still fit seamlessly in here amongst the lighter offerings.
The album also features singles Party Girl and the hit Shine A Light, which saw them take yet another direction, this time as a result of working with R&B and hip-hop producer Dallas Austin. However, the boys were not entirely happy with this style and the brand-new material included on Memory Lane is reflective of this as it steers back towards their more familiar sound. The laidback Love Is Easy proved to be a hit on tour and in turn was their most recent single, whilst Cherry Cola is a bouncing track with a catchy beat and cheeky lyrics.

Many dismiss McFly as ‘just another boy band’, but in fact this album proves them to be anything but. They are unafraid to experiment with different styles and veer away from the norm and in turn prove that they are pretty much able to tackle anything they put their minds to. This is a great collection of hits old and new and provides the perfect springboard from which they can launch their sixth studio album with confidence and ease.

McFly revealed to Digital Spy at the National Television Awards that they would love to get involved in being judges or coaches on one of the big reality shows such as The Voice or The X Factor.

The boyband – Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter, Harry Judd and Danny Jones – said that they would be interested in taking on a Saturday night TV judging role if Simon Cowell or the BBC called.

“We’d love to do it, I’m sure we’d love to do it. I don’t know [why we haven't before],” said Fletcher. “We haven’t been asked.”

Judd said: “Maybe Tom [would do it]. I might do it. Danny probably wouldn’t want to do it.”

“I’d panic and pass out,” said Jones.

Judd added: “And I’d worry that Dougie would ruin our careers after one live show [if he did it].”

McFly were among the stars who appeared at this year’s NTAs, which pulled in an audience of over 5 million for ITV.

McFly‘s Tom Fletcher has confirmed that he and band member Dougie Poynter have written a second children’s picture book.

Last October, Random House Children’s Books released the first in the The Dinosaur That Pooped series.

The band made the announcement at the National Television Awards were they were presenting the best talent show award.

Tom couldn’t confirm the date of release for the book.

“There will be another kids’ book. We’ve just finished writing the second in The Dinosaur That Pooped series. So that will be coming out before summer.”

The lead singer also confirmed that both he and Dougie may be writing some more children’s books.

“We might be, yes, we’re just in talks. We have a few ideas. So yes there could be a few more to come in a different series.”

McFly say they are currently preparing for their UK tour.

Both Tom and fellow McFly star, Harry Judd, recently got married.

DING DONG.

Oh how we love big nights in the British Television industry – it usually means we get to see McFly boys Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter, Harry Judd and Danny Jones in some kind of suit looking phwwoarsome.

DAMN RIGHT WE DO.

The boys rocked up to the NTAs in London tonight to present the award for Best Reality Show, and brought some extra hair for Dougie along with them. Thoughtful.
Looking snappy and sexy (yeah, that’s a phrase) in their suits and jazzy shoes which we’re sure have a name but we don’t know it, the boys took to the stage infront of the nation to make fun of Danny.

Charmers.

If you haven’t seen Tom’s wedding video that they’re all banging on about, head over to this bit and take a look at it, enrich your life and expand your knowledge and wisdom of the world.

Tidy.

Welcome to The Saint Kidd Blog.

Apparently it’s not cool to be totally naked all the time, so a couple of years we decided to create a clothing line to help cover up your private parts.

If you have seen Sex And The City then you will totally get what this whole blogging thing is about. If you haven’t, then…well you just haven’t lived yet.

So that got me to thinking. Should this be a blog with awesome, wired, clothing style blog with the occasional nipple slip? Yes. Oh.

I’m horny. I have nothing left to say.

The one compilation album that fans and non-fans alike should take a listen to

Who needs lyrical videos, when you can be lyrical in your video? Just check out English pop rock band McFLY’s latest single ‘Love is Easy’ on their aptly-titled compilation album Memory Lane: The Best of McFLY. Unlike most of the band’s material, ‘Love is Easy’ primarily makes use of the ukulele, thus incorporating a more folk rock feel. The sweet tune will have you bopping along in no time and humming to it repeatedly for the rest of the day.

Aside from ‘Love is Easy’, the compilation album also consists of four other tracks that are unreleased previously.

Do Watcha’ falls in line with the band’s usual sound; the fast thumping of the drums will cause you to start tapping your feet along to the rhythm and you wouldn’t even realise three minutes had gone by at the end of the track.

The opening of a can of fizzy drink at the start of ‘Cherry Cola’ sets the tone of the song. The clapping in the music background hints a fun and uplifting tune, which keeps its energy throughout the track. Short as it might be, ‘That Girl’ grabs your attention right from the beginning with a strong brush of the electric guitar; a pity McFLY’s songs somewhat start to sound similar overtime, making this song easily forgettable.

Memory Lane: The Best of McFLY is that one compilation that fans and non-fans should take a listen to as it consists of some of the best tracks the English band has ever put out, including ‘The Heart Never Lies’ and ‘Transylvania’.

Recommended tracks: ‘Love is Easy’, ‘Falling in Love’, ‘Obviously’, ‘All About You’

Rating: 4
