The boys finally tackle the one question we’ve been dying to ask for years as we chat to them about their new autobiography.

Being rather large fans of McFly, we ‘d naturally read the whole of their autobiography, Unsaid Things: Our Story, one and a half times (once all the way through and then back over all the good bits with a highlighter – isn’t that how you always read books?) before our video interview with the boys.

Sure, we planned to ask them about sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, but first things first, one thing caught our eye in the book that we just needed to know more about. Ice cream. About half way through Unsaid Things, Tom had a little moan about journalists (who, US?!) and how we didn’t always ask proper music questions about the band. According to Tom, all we wanted to know about was their fave flavour of ice cream and it got on his nerves because McFly didn’t get into music to talk about mint choc chip.

Well, you know what Tom? This was is OUR interview and, now you mention it, we DO want to know if you like mint choc chip. And it turns out, they really do.

Once that was out of the way, we could focus on proper stuff – for you, Tom – with the boys hoping to prove just how much hard work it took to get McFly into the charts, with all of the chaps experiencing knock backs and heartache as they grew up.

But these days, Danny, Dougie, Harry and Tom can relax and be themselves, comfortable with their success and the way they’re viewed by the public. So much so that they’ve even gone into writing children’s books about dinosaurs. And poo. Yeah, find out about that above.

And being 3am Online, we were always going to quiz the boys on their celebrity knowledge, with McFly taking part in out poorly named Guess the Celebrity Behind the Autobiography game. Find out who won that above.

If you did a little chuckle at the video above, you’re going to love the boys’ new book – which is out now and cheeky, charming, funny as hell and genuinely honest. Not in a normal celebrity autobiography way, but in a ‘holy crap – did they just say that?’ way.

1883 had the chance to meet up with Dougie Poynter, bassist of Mcfly and founder of Saint Kidd clothing, to ask some questions about the emerging label.

How did the idea of Saint Kidd as a brand come about?

I had always wanted to do my own clothing line, but never really felt like I had enough of a story or inspiration behind it. I was being tattooed and the guy tattooing me said that people like Blackbeard actually existed- I was absolutely fascinated by this so went out and bought lots of books about pirateology, mainly factual things rather than stories. That became my inspiration-imagine if I had a clothing label and we had a shop that actually looked like the deck of a pirate ship and all the t-shirts looked like they were inspired by the 17th and 18thcentury.It has been a massive learning curve. We didn’t just want to buy American Apparel t-shirts and print our own graphics onto them; it had to be real.

Johnny Depp once said that pirates were like the rock stars of today; their legend arrived on the shores of the Caribbean way before the pirates themselves actually did, so pirates would do radical things so that people would be afraid of them when they reached the shore. I suppose this is where our tagline came about “ Inspired by the rock stars of the 17th century for the rock stars of today”

Where did the name Saint Kidd come from?

The pirate William Kidd, who was famously the worst pirate, inspired the name. Hired by Britain to steal bounty from other pirates, Kidd kick started his own career by accidentally attacking a British ship carrying a large haul of treasure and earning a bounty on his head. After escaping to the Caribbean, he is thought to be the only pirate to actually bury his treasure, triggering the now well-known legend. He was eventually caught and hung over the River Thames in 1701. This is where the initial name and inspiration for Saint Kidd came from.

What else stands out to you about Saint Kidd?

We really love the taxidermy side of things; this was a big part of the inspiration anyway.  I was doing a lot of travelling at the time and finding little boutique antique shops and I kept collecting little bits, which to me was my own treasure, so one of the ideas behind Saint Kidd is that not everyone’s idea of treasure is gold and money, a lot of people collect these little trinkets.

One of our favourites from the first collection was the Flying cat tee, which was inspired by Victor Wynd’s Little shop of Horrors in Hackney, that actually has a stuffed cat with wings on. The idea of this is something we want to continue with.

So what is next for Saint Kidd?

The idea has always been to be a clothing label but we knew we couldn’t start off by doing sweatshirts and jackets and stuff, we had to start by being a t-shirt company. Everything has to be easy and comfortable, with a vintage, grungy look, so it already feels like it has some kind of story behind it. Hopefully if season two goes well, we will be able to take it to a much bigger level with a wider variety of product.

Saint Kidd will be releasing its second collection before Christmas 2012- Keep tuned to saintkidd.com and follow them on twitter @saint_kidd for news.

Harry Judd finally opens up about that night with Lindsay Lohan, while Danny and Dougie admit to pulling a mother and daughter!

Following the release of their tell all book (and when we say tell all, we mean tell all) Unsaid Things: Our Story, we trotted along to meet McFly at their book signing yesterday afternoon for a chat about all things s-e-x.

Well, that’s not all we chatted to the boys about, but this is the first part of our video interview with Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter, Harry Judd and Danny Jones.

If you’ve read the autobiography (if you haven’t you should, it’s genuinely funny, heartwarming, fluid and alarmingly honest), you’ll know that the chaps don’t hold back when it comes to their, er, enjoyment of being a young, successful and FIT band.

And one of the best parts is Harry’s full account of what happened that night with Lindsay Lohan.

While we knew the pair had kissed, we didn’t know that Lindsay had gone after Harry on a night out like some sort of sexual predator and made some serious moves on the posh hunk.

Harry says in the book: “She was doing everything she could to fuel my ego, telling me how she loved my accent and how she didn’t get with actors any more, only musicians.

“It makes me cringe to think about it now, but I responded in kind. This was like Notting Hill, I told her. I was Hugh Grant and she was Julia Roberts. She loved that.

“Then things started to get a bit more serious. A bit steamier.

“One thing led to another. We moved from first base to second base, and then, just as I was about to seal the deal, Danny walked in, ‘Oh sorry, mate!’

“For a while Lindsay and I carried on getting a bit frisky but gradually she started to sober up. ‘You’ve got to leave before eight’, she said. I didn’t really want to leave. We had unfinished business.

“But then she announced she was tired, pulled one of those airplane eye-masks over her eyes and went to sleep. So much for my romantic night of passion.”

Meanwhile, it turns out that Danny was ‘like a kid in a candy shop’ during McFly’s single stint (they’re all happy in relationships now… hmph) and had quite the few nights of passion with groupies. On one night, he and Dougie even cracked onto a mother, daughter duo.

Danny writes in the book: “It soon turned out that this girl’s mum was keener to get the party going than her daughter was.

“We hadn’t been talking long when, all of a sudden, she got one of her t**s out in the middle of the bar.

“Her daughter was embarrassed, ‘Mum, stop it!’, but we were loving it, and egged her on for a repeat performance.”

Dougie added: “The four of us went to my room.

“The instant the door was shut behind us, the mum stripped down to her black thong, bra and not much else.

“Danny sidled up to me. ‘Mate, I’m going to take the blonde back to my room. You’ll have to entertain her mum’.”

We’re going to stop you there and direct you to the video above, where we talk to McFly about the above in detail, and get their take on the naughty subjects now that their story is out there in the public. Enjoy!

We were all very excited when we had McFly come to visit us on 11th October to talk about their new autobiography, ‘Unsaid Things… Our Story’.

We caught up with them after they came off air to ask them more about what to expect from their new book…

Why did you decide that now was the time to write your book?

We’ve been in the band for nine and a half years so we thought now was the right time. After mine (Harry’s) and Dougie’s TV shows, we went on tour so we thought that now was the perfect time to start reflecting on things.

How did you write the book?

It goes in the order of chronological events, so as you know I (Tom) was the first one to intitate the band so it’s my kind of back story, then Danny’s and how we met. Then it goes into Harry’s and Dougie’s and how we all met and got together and then into our career from the beginning.

The book is written as transcribed conversations basically, so we sat and we talked for hours, days and weeks over a period of time just talking about our career.

We got our schedules out so we could go through day by day what we were doing to jog our memory. We just talked through all of the stories that for years we’ve been saying that will be a great one for when we eventually do a book.

We talked through all of the stories and that’s what’s interesting about the book, because obviously it’s an autobiography of four voices so we wanted to do it in a way where we could get four voices in. When we tell stories, we all remember them differently so that comes across in the book as well.

What would you say is your favourite chapter in the book?

It’s nice the way it ends because its reflecting and looking back of all of our ups and downs that we’ve had and where we end up now which is in very good places.

Have you got a favourite story?

The opening is pretty funny. The opening isn’t the beginning of our career, it’s a funny little story about how we all met and it leads nicely to the beginning of our career. We would describe it as our version of 50 Shades of Grey!

What were the main challenges you faced when writing your book?

Danny’s memory! You’re right, my memory is absolutely shocking! And also trying to decide whether to tell all of these stories or not. A lot of the time, we were quite hesitant. We said we wanted to tell it all and then there was some stuff we weren’t so sure about, but we all kind of encouraged each other to tell those. It was easier to take stuff out if we thought it was too much.

You mentioned earlier about Harry’s and Dougie’s TV appearances, Tom would you ever consider doing reality TV or something as a group perhaps?

All of their reality TV shows have been well suited to them. I’m not sure if there is one that I’m suited to. Maybe there’s a chance we could do something as a group – we’re open to all sorts of options!

Would you write another book?

Definitely yes, but in another 10 years.

What’s your favourite song that you’ve written?

I really like the new one that we’ve done. We’ve been working on songs for a while and we always knew we were going to do a greatest hits album this year so we didn’t want to do anything that was too progressive or different for the greatest hits. We wanted something that the fans would enjoy and something that sounded like us- it’s uplifting pop! It’s along the lines of ‘All About You’ and other McFly greats!

What have you got coming up this year and next?

The book’s out, the single’s out and the Greatest Hits is out and then we are touring next year! So up to Christmas we are very busy with books and singles!
